High Pressure Die Casting Summary

An approach that enables efficient volume manufacturing of castings at a quick rate is called high pressure die casting. These castings can consist of various holes, screw threads, recesses, and are defined by a high perspective accuracy and good surface finish. They allow great economic situation of metal and need little or no surface completing. The principal on which tension type die cast is based, includes forcing molten metal into a mold or the die, under significant pressure. The equipments which are used for this purpose function on one or two systems called: (a) for alloys with a low melting point or Hot Chamber Machines and (b) for metals with a high melting level or Cold Chamber Machines.

In the hot chamber equipments the metal is kept fluid in a crucible inside the equipment, and the pressure chamber that delivers the metal into the die is located in the metal bath. This equipment can easily be pneumatically operated, or more typically establish the pressure by the action of a ram. The casting metal for a cold chamber machine, is kept fluid in a holding furnace, from which it is transmitted to the pressure chamber, by means of a scoop or a unique automatic gadget and is forced into the die by the ways of a ram. Some straightforward devices are hand functioned, however completely automatic equipments are more commonly utilized for high rates of production. In pressure die casting, precision made perishes of intricate multipart design and therefore very costly are used, and subjected to extreme working conditions, by high pressures and high successive distinctions in temperature. For the manufacturing of zinc and zinc alloy castings the passes away may be composed of unalloyed steel, however for magnesium, aluminum, copper and the alloys of these metals, the passes away are typically made of hot-work steel, which has much greater resilience.

Yet another progress in high pressure die casting is vacuum die cast process. It creates castings which have an also better finish than average high pressure castings. There are 2 programs, the die is either enclosed in a hood which evacuates the air, or the holding heater is installed under the casting machine, so that on the release of the air from the die, the metal is sucked into the die and is compressed in it, and a procedure for making iron castings based upon this concept has been developed.
